A Winter Escape - Florida Everglades
Colorado Winters run long and by February, I'm always ready to find a warmer place. This year, we took a short trip to the Gulf Coast of South Western Florida and used that opportunity to explore the Florida Everglades. If you are interested in wildlife photography, the Florida Everglades would be ground zero for anyone with a camera. I've created a photo album of our trip and you can see it here.
Explore your local parks and lakes...
It's the dead of winter and there's nothing to do. WRONG. Take that camera out to the local park lake and bring along the wife & kids for that matter. You'll find an occasional warm day and you'll also find the local lakes are teaming with wildlife. Join me on one of my recent outings to photograph the local water fowl. You can see the feature "Exploring Urban Wildlife" here.
Quick review of Datacolor Spyder4 Express.
If you are interested in keeping the color on your monitor in calibration, the Datacolor Spyder4 Express is one of your options. I've recently used the product and you can read my thoughts here.
New for 2012 - Checklist for Colorado Photography
I'm adding a new listing to the web site. Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
I'll be listing some of the major events involving Airshows, Balloon Festivals, Train & Railroad and Automobile events for 2012. I'll be updating this list throughout the year so check back often. I plan on attending some of these events and will be organizing groups throughout the year. You can find it here.
Weldon Lee - Petition To Save The Beavers in Estes Park
Hi,
I am appalled with the Estes Valley Recreational District's decision to construct a trail alongside the beaver ponds on Fish Creek Road. In particular, beginning construction of the trail at a time that will potentially be responsible for the death of the entire beaver colony. Do they not care? Silly question! Of course they don't. Otherwise, they would have heeded input from experts at the November 15th Public Meeting and delayed construction until next spring. If you care anything about our wild brothers and sisters, it's time to speak out and sign this petition.
That's why I signed a petition to Jack Holmquist, Board President of the Estes Valley Recreational District, which says:
"Construct the trail on the opposite side of the road where the beaver ponds are located."
Will you sign this petition? Click here: http://signon.org/sign/save-the-beaver-of-estes?source=s.em.mt&r_by=1763364
Thanks!
Weldon Lee
Why do we have rules to photography and then not follow them?
Today's essay. Learning the rules of photography and then learning how to break the rules. It's a fairly simple concept, but the execution takes a bit more effort than guesswork. You can read it here.
Quick Lesson on Panoramic and High Res Stitched Images
One of my favorite types of photography is taking multiple images of a scene and stitching them together to make ultra-high resolution final images. It's fairly simple to do once you learn the basics. In this article I walk you through a sample and give you those basics. You can read it here.
Thinking about buying a new lens for someone or yourself?
Here's a quick listing of links for the web sites and vendors I use when I'm buying a new camera lens. I trust these reviewers and these vendors. This isn't all conclusive, however, it's a great place to start your search. You can read it here.
Colorado's San Juan Mountains - Autumn, 2011
I've just returned from a two week photography trip to the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. I make this trip for Autumn photography just about every year. This year we hade the good fortune to be there for peak color and for the first major snow storm of the season. I've included a number of my favorite shots from this adventurre and you can look them over here.
